What is the Jamesport Meeting House Preservation Trust?
- Community based
- Not-for-profit
- Incorporated by State of New York
- 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
- Dedicated to acquiring, preserving and protecting the meeting house.
- Determined to make it once again a center for community use
The main goals of the Trust are keep the Meeting House in community hands and once again make it available for community use. Although the Preservation Trust is a secular, community-based organization so that it can qualify for grants and attract private funding, its bylaws commit it to leasing the building to a religious organization such as the North Fork Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (see http://www.nfuuf.org) in order not to trigger the reversion clause in the original 1731 deed.
